Once upon a time, a man found a wallet. Inside was a whopping $700! He felt lucky, like he’d hit the jackpot. But little did he know, his luck was just beginning.
Days passed, and he stumbled upon a note. It said a rich person lost their wallet, and anyone who found it would get $50. That got the man thinking. He found the wallet, so maybe he could claim the reward.
Eventually, he found the owner and returned the wallet. But to his surprise, the rich man accused him of taking some cash. “You’ve already got your reward”, the rich man said, pointing to the money.
Confused, the man denied it. “What are you talking about? There was only $700 in there”, he protested. The two couldn’t agree, so they went to court. The poor man went first, explaining his side. Then the rich man spoke up, saying: “Your Honor, you trust me, and I trust you”.
The judge nodded. “Of course”. he replied, seeming to favor the rich man.
The poor man was scared. But then the judge did something unexpected. He took the wallet from the rich man and gave it to the poor man. The rich man was furious. “What’s going on?” he demanded.
The judge calmly explained: “You may be honest, and your wallet might have had $750, but this wallet belongs to the person who found it. And if he’s a liar and a thief, he wouldn’t have returned it at all”.
The rich man grumbled about his lost money. But the judge simply said: “We’ll have to wait until your wallet with $750 is found”. And with that, justice was served.
