Do you know why flight attendants sit on their hands during takeoff and landing of the airplane? This is the main reason

Passengers might have observed the rather unique posture adopted by cabin crew members during the crucial phases of flight, takeoff and landing.

Heni Lim, a flight attendant representing Cebu Pacific, a renowned airline from the Philippines, took to TikTok to shed light on the rationale behind this practice.

This posture, termed the “brace position”, entails the secure fastening of seatbelts, maintaining an upright sitting position with hands rested on laps, arms raised with thumbs folded, relaxed arms, and feet placed flat on the floor.

The fundamental objective of assuming this position is to keep the body in a rigid stance, thereby minimizing the likelihood of sustaining injuries in the event of unexpected emergencies during the critical moments of takeoff or landing.

Moreover, flight attendants undergo rigorous silent drills to ensure preparedness for emergencies. This comprehensive training encompasses familiarization with emergency equipment, proficiency in handling doors, mastery of emergency commands, and vigilance regarding visual cues outside the aircraft.

Passengers will receive clear instructions if it becomes necessary to adopt the emergency position, ensuring everyone is well-prepared and informed during the flight.
