Do you remember the lead role in the late-night TV show “California”?

Nicollette Sheridan rose to fame through her portrayal of Paige Matheson on the popular soap opera “California” and later became fan-favorite villain Eddie Britt on “Desperate Housewives”. Behind her on-screen success, however, lay turbulent relationships and a significant personal journey for Sheridan.

Sheridan’s career began in 1986 when she joined California, a Dallas spin-off, as the ambitious and manipulative Paige. Her role, which she played for seven years, earned her widespread acclaim. Sheridan’s performance was acclaimed for its complexity, with the actress describing Paige as “strong, ambitious, brilliant, and mischievous”. Her work earned her the Soap Opera Digest Award for Best Actress in 1990, and she was named one of People magazine’s “50 Most Beautiful People”.

Sheridan was born in England and raised in Hollywood. She grew up surrounded by fame, with her mother, actress Sally Adams, and her mother’s partner, actress Telly Savalas, playing significant roles in her life. Despite her British roots, Sheridan adopted an American accent after years of being teased by classmates about her accent. “I practiced speaking with an American accent every day and pretty much learned it”, she recalls.

While her career soared, Sheridan’s personal life was dominated by high-profile relationships. Her first marriage, to actor Harry Hamlin in 1991, ended in divorce after just 11 months. The separation sparked public controversy, particularly after Hamlin’s second wife, Lisa Rinna, accused Sheridan of having an affair with singer Michael Bolton. Sheridan denied the affair, but the drama led to a public feud with Hamlin. Sheridan and Bolton had an on-again, off-again relationship for years; the two became engaged in 2006 before splitting in 2008.

After her split from Bolton, Sheridan married Aaron Phypers in 2018, but their marriage ended after just six months. Phypers later married Real Housewives star Denise Richards.

Sheridan’s time on “Desperate Housewives” was also turbulent. Her character, Edie Britt, was unexpectedly killed off, and Sheridan claimed it was retaliation for her allegations against the show’s creator, Marc Cherry. She accused Cherry of physically assaulting her and creating a hostile work environment, although her lawsuit was dismissed in 2017. Many fans expressed disappointment at Edie’s departure, feeling that the show would never have been the same without her.

In recent years, Sheridan has stepped back from the spotlight, focusing on smaller projects such as Hallmark Channel movies and a 2017 reboot of Dynasty. She left the show in 2019 to care for her ailing mother, telling TV Line: “It’s more important to me right now to spend quality time with my terminally ill mother”.
