A shocking case of animal cruelty unfolded recently when a dog was found with his entire head, tail, and legs wrapped in duct tape. On April 15, the Nebraska Humane Society shared the disturbing discovery, made after a caller reported hearing an animal in a dumpster. Initially mistaken for a raccoon, the poor dog was found in dire condition, with his muzzle, eyes, and paws all taped, and debris caked in his fur.
Animal Control arrived just in time, with a truck scheduled to empty the dumpster shortly after. The dog, later identified as Leo, was rushed to the Nebraska Humane Society, where staff sedated him and began removing the tape. Thankfully, Leo was otherwise healthy and in good spirits despite his trauma. A microchip revealed that Leo had gone missing a few days earlier.

Leo’s owner, Erin Dillon-Pasillas, had been frantically searching for him and was overjoyed to be reunited, though devastated by the cruelty he had endured. While the culprit remains unknown, the Nebraska Humane Society was offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
Leo is recovering at home, and Erin plans to give him a much-needed bath and vet check-up. The case serves as a reminder of the heartbreaking cruelty some animals face, but also highlights the power of community in rescuing them.
