Buddy, a brave dog who endured unimaginable suffering, has made a remarkable recovery thanks to the Tunica Humane Society and the veterinary team at Mississippi State University. In April 2021, Buddy was discovered with severe burns on his face and an extension cord wrapped around his neck, the result of being set on fire by a child. Though the child admitted to the act, they couldn’t face legal repercussions due to their age.
Despite the severity of his injuries, Buddy’s recovery has been extraordinary. When he arrived at the Tunica Humane Society, his condition was dire. However, his will to survive, combined with expert care, led to a series of skin grafts that helped him heal. A significant milestone occurred in August 2021 when Buddy regained his eyesight, which allowed him to interact with his environment and others.
Buddy still faces challenges, such as sensitive skin and eyes, requiring regular eye drops and sunscreen. However, his playful spirit remains intact. He enjoys playing with toys and carrying a ball in his mouth, showing resilience despite the trauma he endured.
