Earwigs may not pose a significant threat, but they’re certainly unwelcome guests in my living space. This year, their numbers seem to have surged, especially in my garden. If you’re facing a similar invasion of earwigs in your vicinity, here’s a nifty solution that might just do the trick.
A Facebook user named Alicia Alexander shared her ingenious method of tackling an earwig infestation in her backyard. She filled a shallow bowl with half a cup of olive oil and placed it strategically outdoors. The results were astounding:
Within less than 24 hours, the bowl was teeming with earwigs, and the count kept rising even after 36 hours!
It appears that the earwigs are irresistibly drawn to the olive oil, lured into the bowl but unable to escape once inside.
While the uptick in earwig populations is a concern, their presence could also signal underlying issues with decaying wood. Rotting wood tends to attract various pests, including earwigs. It’s prudent to inspect the integrity of your home’s structure, as well as any wooden decks or porches, to nip potential infestations in the bud.
If you’re tired of playing host to earwigs, give this simple yet potent remedy a shot. Here’s to bidding farewell to unwanted garden intruders!
