“I feel beautiful and happy”, the mother of three, who is 27, says she is for the first time in eight years after having a huge face tumor removed by doctors

Following a life-changing surgery to remove a sizable facial tumor, a mother has rediscovered her smile and embraced her own beauty after an arduous eight-year journey.

Yaya, a 27-year-old woman from Cameroon, Africa, had been grappling with a massive growth inside her mouth, impeding her ability to eat and speak comfortably. The tumor, extending from her chin down one side of her face, not only caused physical discomfort but also inflicted emotional distress, rendering her hesitant to venture outdoors without concealing her face with a scarf.

For years, Yaya navigated the world with a veil of embarrassment, shielding herself from potential scrutiny and hostility. However, her only solace lay in the confines of her home, where she could retreat from the harsh judgment of strangers.

Fortunately, a glimmer of hope emerged when Yaya received surgery aboard a charity ship, courtesy of the dedicated medical professionals at Mercy Ships. Following the procedure, which successfully removed the tumor, Yaya experienced a profound transformation.

With tears of joy and newfound confidence, Yaya expressed her gratitude to the physicians, declaring: “I feel beautiful and joyful”. The burden that once weighed heavily upon her spirit had been lifted, allowing her to embrace life with renewed vigor.

Reflecting on her journey, Yaya remarked: “Since the surgery, I feel liberated. Everything feels much simpler now”. No longer constrained by the physical and emotional limitations imposed by the tumor, she now faces the world with a radiant smile, embodying the true essence of beauty and resilience.
