Hey everyone, it’s Barbara here with a story you won’t want to miss! Let me take you through what happened.
My husband, Bill, and I have been happily married for two years. But things got rocky when it came to my relationship with his mom, Elaine. See, I’m Black and Bill’s white, which she didn’t seem to like much.
Elaine made it clear she didn’t approve of me, leaving me out of family stuff and saying I wasn’t really part of the family. Bill always had my back, though.
I decided to throw Elaine a big surprise party for her 60th birthday, hoping to mend things. I went all out with the decorations, food, and even got her an expensive handbag she’d been eyeing.
At first, everything seemed great. Elaine seemed happy and thanked me for the party and gift. But then she dropped a bombshell by inviting Bill’s ex, Kathy, without warning.
Kathy was the mother of Bill’s late child, and Elaine’s move felt like a slap in the face. Throughout the party, Elaine kept pushing Kathy toward Bill, making me feel awful.
I tried to hold it together, but when Elaine forced Bill to hug Kathy goodbye, I couldn’t take it anymore. I left the party in tears and told Bill his mom had to apologize or she wasn’t welcome in our home.
Bill was shocked but I stood my ground. Was I being unreasonable? What do you think?
