Stacy and Babajide, a couple from Lagos, Nigeria, were thrilled to learn they were expecting twins. However, nothing could prepare them for the surprise they encountered when their sons, Daniel and David, were born on February 26th, 2019.

While Daniel was born with dark skin and curly black hair, David had fair skin and golden curls, a stark contrast that left everyone in awe. Despite both parents being of African descent, they were shocked by their twins’ different appearances, especially since the ultrasound didn’t indicate anything unusual.

Stacy recalled the nurses’ reaction, remarking that the twins were “completely unidentical”. David’s light features were the result of a rare genetic condition called oculocutaneous albinism, which causes a lack of pigmentation in the skin, hair, and eyes.

Though Stacy initially worried about how others would perceive David, she was relieved to find he faced no major health issues. Albinism is relatively common in Nigeria, but societal misconceptions can make life challenging for those affected. Thankfully, Stacy and her family have encountered little discrimination.

Despite their differences, Daniel and David share a strong bond, with Daniel being outgoing and food-loving, while David is more reserved. Stacy still finds it hard to believe the twins’ contrasting appearances but is grateful for the unique gift of her children.
