At this year’s Oscar ceremony in Los Angeles, John Cena surprised the audience by stripping down completely for a comedic skit alongside host Jimmy Kimmel. The moment garnered enthusiastic applause from the crowd as Cena prepared to present the award for Best Costume Design, with nominees including “Poor Things”, “Oppenheimer”, “Barbie”, “Napoleon”, and “Killers of the Flower Moon”.
Kimmel playfully pondered aloud: “Could you imagine if someone streaked across the stage right now?” referencing a notorious incident from the 1974 Academy Awards. Cena, however, humorously balked at the idea, peeking through the curtain and declaring: “I’ve had a change of heart. The streaker bit just doesn’t sit right with me. It’s a bit too risqué for this classy event”.
Asserting that the male body shouldn’t be treated as a punchline, Cena stepped onto the stage to present the award, seemingly shielded only by the envelope containing the winner’s name. However, a subsequent social media post revealed that Cena had actually sported skin-painted underwear beneath the envelope, sparking a mix of reactions online.
While some praised the attention to detail, others expressed disappointment, suggesting Cena should have committed fully to the gag. Nonetheless, Cena’s “naked” appearance caused a stir both at the Dolby Theater and on the internet, adding an unexpected twist to the evening’s proceedings.
Despite not receiving an Oscar nomination himself this year, Cena had a small role in the 2023 film “Barbie”. Interestingly, the 46-year-old wrestler-turned-actor recently shared his journey of defying industry expectations, recounting how he was initially advised against taking the role due to perceptions of it being beneath him.
In a candid interview on the Howard Stern Show, Cena emphasized his belief in seizing every opportunity, regardless of others’ perceptions. Reflecting on his decision to pursue the role despite initial resistance, Cena emphasized the importance of staying true to oneself and embracing diverse opportunities.
