The conversation ended. Johnny, a kid in seventh grade, liked to ask his teacher a lot of questions.
One day, he asked his English teacher why some letters don’t make sounds when we say certain words, like the “H” in “Hour” or “Honour”.
His teacher told him: “We’re not leaving them out; they’re just quiet”. Johnny got even more confused.
At lunchtime, the teacher gave Johnny her lunch and told him to warm it up in the cafeteria. Johnny ate all the food and brought back the empty container.
The teacher asked: “What happened? I told you to heat up my food, but you’re giving me back an empty box”.
Johnny replied: “I thought the ‘H’ was silent”. Shoutout to all the English teachers out there!
