In today’s digital age, most couples meet through dating apps, but not so long ago, finding love often meant stepping out into the real world. This even applies to celebrities who have faced the same challenges in their search for true love.
Take the actress Maureen McCormick, for example. She became known for her role as Marcia Brady in “Three Girls and Three Boys” from 1969 to 1974. She saw her future husband for the first time at a concert, but it was in church that she won his heart.

Despite her iconic role, McCormick’s path to Brady Bunch was filled with difficulties, including battling addiction and mental health issues. “I’ve been through a lot of hard times, but I take all of those experiences and learn and grow from them”, she shared with People in 2016. Her struggles included stints in mental health treatment and rehab while seeking guidance in prayer.

While struggling with drugs and her acting career was building up, she met a man at a concert who would later become her husband. In her autobiography: “Here’s the Story: Surviving Marcia Brady and Finding My True Voice”, she recounts: “I turned around and saw this guy behind me. He had dark hair, was tall, and had strong features. I looked him straight in the eyes and though: ‘That’s the man I’m going to marry'”.

Determined to get to know him better, McCormick attended the same Bible studies as Michael Cummings, even sitting next to him in church. Her efforts paid off, as they led to their first date and a lasting connection. Looking back on their relationship, Cummings noted: “She was very honest with me from day one. I was never afraid that she would fall back into her old habits because I thought that whatever happened, we would get through it”.

Although their relationship was described as “fast and passionate”, it was not without its difficulties. McCormick’s ongoing struggle with addiction often caused distance between them, but Cummings stood firm. As she noted in her autobiography, he was committed to their relationship and believed in its potential for growth.

Now the couple is celebrating their 37th wedding anniversary on March 16, after their son was born in 1989. McCormick attributes their enduring love to their shared faith: “We both believed that, despite all our problems, our love was real, strong and enduring, and that it was worth staying together”.
