Twiggy, the legendary model who revolutionized fashion in the 1960s, first gained attention with her now-famous pixie cut, which framed her elfin face and made her blue eyes pop. Surprisingly, Twiggy admitted she never planned to cut her hair that short—she was simply too shy to propose a new look to famed stylist Leonard of Mayfair.
This haircut made Twiggy a star overnight. Photos of her new style caught the attention of Daily Express fashion editor Deirdre McSharry, and Twiggy was named the “Face of 1966.” Shortly thereafter, she landed a photoshoot for Vogue, paving the way for her worldwide fame.
Although she became a symbol of the androgynous “mod” style, Twiggy later admitted that she wasn’t a fan of the trend at the time. She was still a teenager experimenting with makeup, inspired by the spiky eyelashes of a rag doll, which gave her her signature wide-eyed stare.

After several years at the top of the modeling world, Twiggy turned her attention to acting and singing, winning two Golden Globes for her role in “The Boy Friend.” She continued to shape the fashion industry through collaborations, releasing a music album in 2011 and even creating a clothing line for Marks & Spencer.

Today, Twiggy hosts her own podcast, “Tea with Twiggy,” and remains very proud of her greatest achievement: her close relationship with her daughter Carly, whom she raised largely on her own after her father’s death.
