When we think of snow sculptures, most of us picture snowmen or simple shapes. But what Austin, Trevor, and Connor Bartz from Minnesota have created goes beyond expectations. Their giant snow fish, sculpted entirely by hand, has garnered admiration around the world.
Every winter, these talented brothers set aside weeks to build a new ice sculpture in their family’s backyard. Despite the unforgiving temperatures, they spend days shoveling and carving incredible creatures out of pure snow—with no tools other than their will, patience, and imagination.
Their most famous creation—a giant carp (or “koi”) with intricately crafted scales and fins—has become a symbol of creativity and togetherness. Their work doesn’t last forever, but the photographs and inspiration endure.
The Bartz brothers remind us that true art doesn’t have to be eternal—it just has to leave a mark on the eyes and hearts of those who see it.
