The small emblem on your front bumper actually has a purpose

You may have noticed a small, square plastic cover on your car’s front bumper and thought it was purely decorative. However, it actually conceals something very useful: the towing eye. This hidden feature allows you to tow your vehicle safely and without causing damage—unlike attaching cables or straps to random parts of the bumper, which can be risky and costly.

Unlike large trucks with visible tow hooks, most cars hide this component behind this discreet panel. Beneath it is a thread into which a tow hook—usually included—can be screwed. Once secured, you can attach a cable or strap for secure towing.

Most vehicles are equipped with towing eyes at the front and rear, offering flexibility depending on the situation. For example, if the front of your vehicle is damaged or inaccessible, the rear towing eye can be used instead. Knowing where these eyes are located can be extremely helpful in an emergency.

While using the towing eye is straightforward, caution is still required. Avoid sudden movements when towing, ensure your vehicle is not overloaded, and if in doubt, consult a professional to avoid further damage. While small and often overlooked, the towing eye is an important part of your vehicle’s emergency preparedness.
