My grandfather was a difficult man. He loved order, rules, and had no patience for nonsense. When he died, everyone expected his wealth to be divided evenly—but Grandpa always had the final say.
When we sat down with the lawyer to read the will, the atmosphere was tense. Everyone was holding their breath. And then the lawyer read the sentence that changed everything:
“I leave my entire fortune of 1,000,000 euros to just one person…” We all froze. “The person who fulfills my last request.” There was silence.
The lawyer cleared his throat and continued: “The person who is willing to give up his entire family, gets everything”. Chaos ensued. My mother started crying. My uncle immediately protested. My brother stood up angrily.
But then… a voice spoke out of the silence. “I will do it.” I turned to the person who had spoken those words, and felt my stomach turn. “NO!” I shouted. “You can’t do it!”
But it was too late. The million euros had just gone… to her. My own SISTER accepted the will. We all looked at her in shock. My brother cursed, my mother cried, my uncle screamed that she was ungrateful.
But she just stood up, took the papers, and signed. “You are strangers to me now”, she said coldly. “Enjoy your poverty.” She left the office, and we sat in complete silence. My sister had just given up her entire family, for a million euros.
