Lewis the cow was barely alive when she came to The Gentle Barn.
The dog Sky was most responsible for her recovery.
Ellie Laks and Jay Weinter are the founders of The Gentle Barn. In 2020, they adopted a calf that was only a week old and was left without a mother. They saved him from the slaughterhouse.
His new name was John Lewis Thunderheart.

Ellie said Lewis wasn’t very healthy when he was adopted.
The pneumonia he had was very hard to bear. Because of his weak immune system, it was a fight for his life.
Given his condition, they had to take him to an air-conditioned home so he could recover.

Lewis weighed just 50 pounds when he was adopted, and is now 2 years old and weighs over 1,000 pounds.
Physical size between these two creatures is apparently irrelevant.
Lewis is much bigger than Sky, so Sky climbs on top of him and keeps licking him.
Ellie said she was very happy for the amazing love between Lewis and Sky.
