Melissa Sergent Lewis was on her way to work one day and saw a garbage bag on the road.
When she got closer, she realized that there was something alive inside.
It happened in Kentucky.
She could not believe that the bag was moving, as she told The Dodo.
She knew then that she had to get whatever it was out.
Actually examining the bag wasn’t really safe, but that’s what she decided.
Inside she found a small black dog.
It was obvious that the owner had dumped his dog because he still had the collar on.
Melissa took the unfortunate dog home and shared photos of him on social media in case he was lost or stolen.
However, this was not the case, so he stayed with the Lewis family where he was given a new name, Hefty.
Thanks to this woman with a big heart, Hefty now has a warm home full of love and care.
